Stars Show Up For Precious Viewing At Film Festival In NY, Where’s Monique?
The NY Film Festival went down this weekend. The stars of the movie Precious came out to support. The likes of Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz and other stars of the movie arrived to support this new emotional piece. The only one who did not appear oddly enough was one of the main characters in the movie Monique. Who plays an abusive mother. She is quoted as have reportedly demanding a $100,000 appearance fee, even though Carey and Kravitz haven’t asked for money for appearances. A source said, “Mo’Nique said she signed on to do this film for a small amount of money. She said she didn’t care about ‘no Oscar’ – all that mattered was ‘those Benjamins!’ Because Oprah and Tyler Perry are backing the film, she feels as though there should be a budget to pay for her promotional duties.”
Mo’Nique herself responded to the claims by saying, “When people say, ‘You care more about money than winning an Oscar,’ well, what does an Oscar mean? An Oscar means more work when you win it, and that means more money! I couldn’t eat that Oscar. Everybody needs money, baby. That’s how we survive, right?”
I get Monique’s point and all, money does make the world go round. However, so does bridges so you might not want to burn them. When you are working with people like Tyler Perry and Oprah who are at the top of the food chain when it comes to Blacks in Hollywood, you might not want to piss them off. Which makes me wonder how did they feel about Monique’s approach in this? I haven’t heard a response yet but I’m sure I will. Monique is a talented actress but not yet established in the movie game. An opportunity like this might open up the door for more money than she ever realized if she just plays the game a little and the game consists of rubbing elbows with the right people sometimes. You are not that hot yet Monique pooh. Bring it down a notch and don’t knock your blessings.
