Failing Career, Get Naked
This post may come off as a bit cynical but is it just me or can having a sex tape or naked photographs of yourself help to either create a non existent career or aide a failing one.”LJ, that is not true! You sure about that LJ?” I’m damn sure. Sex is a timeless sensationalist way to gain media attention. It seems that whenever a failing star is loosing their shine or wants to drag out their 15 minutes of fame, they get a**hole naked. Basically, when all else fails, do some hoe s**t. This will guarantee that someone will talk about you somewhere. It is becoming impossible to determine who is truly a victim of having an intimate moment robbed from them or acting out of desperation. Fear breeds desperation. In this case it is the fear of not being noticed by the media. Not to mention that some of these celebs are smart enough to form a deal to get a check cut from a major porn distributor for the tape after it has been released. People have been using sexuality for years to gain attention they just have pushed the envelope due to desperation and intense competition in recent times. Let us not forget that everyone loves the smell of a check. Being relevant and newsworthy usually leads to more checks in the mail.
Allow me to throw out some examples. Kim Kardashian and Ray J. Although we knew Ray J from his few singles he released, he was not a household name. Nobody gave a damn about Ray J. All we knew was that he was Brandy’s brother, he was kinda cute and he could sing… a little. Kim Kardashian was virtually unknown. She was not hanging among the celebrities and rubbing elbows (among other body parts) with athletes. These two get together, have a lack luster sexual encounter (I have seen the tape, was not impressed) and kaboom! (yes kaboom) Suddenly, she is at every celebrity party and event, and she even gets a show that she not only makes money from, but she puts her family on so that they can get paid too. Ray J’s yellow brick road from unfamiliarity was similar. Suddenly everybody and they momma (literally) wants to get with him and be the love of his life (side eye). VH1 is laying out the checks to Ray J for not one but two scripted seasons of women fawning over him on For The Love Of Ray J. Not only are people talking about both of them once again, they are even getting greenbacks from their romp as well. All it took was them to get naked and tape it.
Example number 2 will act collectively. Let’s examine the cases of these virtually unthought of characters. Rihanna, Cassie, and Paris Hilton. Now, Rihanna did have a career in music. Granted she had her fans but she certainly was not at the height of popularity that she is now. Her and Chris have a fallout AND naked pictures of her hit the net! Some were saying “poor thing” but her record label was saying cha-ching! Let the cash register ring. They were right because shortly after Kaboom! Suddenly, Rihanna was a woman scorned AND a sex symbol. Sometimes it pays to be talentless but have a body that won’t quit. Now she is a style icon and to some, she is giving Beyonce a run for her money on the popularity radar (Beyonce fanatics, I do not personally think she is but I’m just sayin..). Hell even Queen Beyonce has been showing more and more skin than she once was.
Then there is Cassie. Poor Cassie. She cannot sing, dance, make a good sandwhich, nothing. She is a gorgeous young woman but that is all she really has to offer, her looks. Just when we thought we had seen the last of her, naked pictures of her “leak” to the net showing her nipple rings, a bald head and her spreading eagle. Kaboom! Somehow, the combination of these things, with the pictures being at the pinnacle, assisted in dragging out her 15 minutes of fame. Now she is blog worthy all over again and booking more modeling jobs (it is true, I’m blogging about her RIGHT now, lol).
Finally, there is the case of Paris Hilton. Poor, rich Paris. She virtually has no talent. She literally is a socialite by definition. That is what she does. Never had to work or even go to college for that matter. She simply parties. When she was loosing a bit of her fame and significance, kaboom! Here comes the naked ass sex tape to keep her alive. Now people are talking about her again. It is almost like magic. It does not matter if they are saying negative things, all that matters is that she is on people’s minds once again.
I am not suggesting or agreeing that anyone should go to these heights to prolong or create their career. Nor am I suggesting that this is a sure fire way to maintain a failing career. However, it seems to definitely resuscitate a career when it is dying, even if the big comeback is temporary. I’m also not implying that all celebrities leak their photos or tapes purposely but you would be naive to to believe that none do. Everyone’s tape or pictures are not “stolen” from their lap top or “leaked”. Keep those thinking caps on and don’t you believe them.These were just a few examples but I could get into many more such as Pamela Anderson, Kristin Davis, Carrie Prejean, Verne Troyer, Kid Rock, Fantasia, Britney Spears. Not to mention the recent idiot antics of Tila Tequila on live video. I could literally go on. Literally. Now, by all means adults should have the right to get their taste of the good stuff but please, if you don’t want to be blogged about or viewed as desperate, just to be on the safe side, don’t tape yourself. If you have to tape yourself, invest in a safe.
I think sex tapes and nudity only works for white women, if any of our brown sisters would have taken the route of Paris, or Kim Hodashian they would have been black balled from Hollywood..The standards are much different for white and black women, Super Head is a h0 but Kim Hodashian gets a t.v. show and a c00n a$$ rich black ball player, so does her sister, Super Head is untouchalbe but Kim is a sex object, desire of affection and a business woman..Kim has screwed a whole lot of men besides Ray-J and Reggie Bush..What about Jaimee Foxworth from Family Matters, she experienced with porn and she hasn’t been seen since..Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana) 15 years old dating a 20 year old underwere model, another future h0 in the making, nobody said one thing about that, including Walt Disney.
Although Rhinna and Beyonce may push the limits a little and show a little skin, what they do still doesn’t compare to what a lot of white women in Hollywood have done and get away with every day.
