Its just another example of the faction of women who live in the past. YOu have to ask yourself why you think what you think. and if you are part of the generation who thinks that the 1960’s are still happening then you somehow have this contorted view of the world that our author has here. The thing about feminism is that for so many of these people it means equality when it benefits them and an attitude of indifference when it benefits someone else in this case men. Its indicitive of the larger problem that I personally think society faces which is that; if you tell someone that they are a certain sterotype because of some benign thing they do such as how they dress then eventually they become the sterotype that you have laid out for them. So in this case, men to this group of women have become ‘those people who cant wear skirts’ or have other fashion choices as they do. Which in reality shows the insecurity of the women who demand that men wear certain things to reaffirm what ‘men should be’. Nevermind that you posses every other quality of who and what a man really is, acting with integrity, showing respect, upholding what is right, supporting you family etc.
Then after telling these men their whole lives to hate what is feminine in order to be a man they can’t figure out why there is animosity toward women from some (not all) men who resent being told who they are supposed to be when they were already secure in who they are all along.
You reap what you sow!

I don’t see a problem with men wearing skirts. To each his own i say. I think that the fashion changes are due to the boring everyday styles men wear. There is nothing wrong with the opinion you state in your article but if it was something you saw in your everyday life from when you was a child it wouldn’t be any different then seeing a man walk down the street in a three piece suit with penny loafers. We are brought up in a society where there is a “norm” and men should not wear certain things. But we also live in “the land of the free”, and the means free to express ourselves in any way we would like. If we want to have the society “norms” of old then every woman should be June Clever and wear aprons and skirts and my dinner should be on the table by the time i get home from work.
I’m just saying.

Well, if men can’t have have men’s skirts or wear kilts, then you women can’t wear pants! How’s that? How would you like to go back 100 years and be restricted to wearing only dresses?

Get with the program lady, in your own words you said times have changed, Yes, and times are changing again.

Ladies had to force the change about 100 years ago so they could wear pants, so now it’s men’s turn to force the change, and like men not being able to stop women wearing pants, you can’t stop men forcing the change so they can wear skirts. It’s coming, and sooner than you think!

This woman is of the female faction who (correctly) views social prohibitions against men in skirts as leaving these women with POWER over men—”We can wear skirts while you can’t; we can wear anything but you’re restricted.” She reminds me of the rabid man hating psychologist Susan B. Kaiser in her book “The Social Psychology of Clothing.” Social tyranny was wielded in medieval times by the Roman Catholic Holy Office and by the Protestant witch hunts in Salem, and under Matthew Hopkins, witch finder general, in England. Millions were tortured and murdered for moral disagreement! We don’t tolerate religious persecution today, but what DO we tolerate? MENTAL HEALTH PROPAGANDA—”cross dressing only applies to males?” Why? Because society abandoned its wish to stop women from having choices! This terminology is strategy, not fact! All are born naked, and the skirted Roman centurion (a man’s man—a trained killer, a professional soldier) was said by Christ to have had the greatest faith of all—Luke 7. Don’t you think Christ knew what Deut 22:5 meant? Far more likely it was in part a reference to men wearing bras—a female garment by anatomy. Bras were known in Greco-Roman times as art and archaeology established. Skirts are as sex neutral as water!

Scottish soldiers in kilts have been amongst the most feared in history; Scotland is a warrior nation, unlike America. Your ramblings are pathetic and spurious and curious. What would you consider masculine? Jeans? In America ‘men’ never seem to grow up, and wear juvenile teeshirts and shorts and baseball caps. Juvenile fashion for a juvenile nation.

David, I do think that everybody is entiteld to an opinion. Also I do think that if one poses an opinion one does have to provide support for ones opinion. Using wording like you used is as much discriminating as the opinion without foundation. What people citing the bible to support their opinion forget is that Deuteromony 22:5 is in contradiction with Genesis 3: 21 where Adam and Eve received coates of skin as clothing, hence similar apparel. And that is how one silences someone who cites without knowing the full text. And as coats are unbifurcated garments, the argument of Christine becomes a non argument.
But more interesting is the silence of LJ Knight as her arguments are based on old fashion prejudice and concerns fashion. Some live for being fashionable and trendy, others don’t care. Just a matter of how open minded is someone and into what extent are they willing to respect the individuality of others or are they willing to think outside the box. I just don’t like the baggy fashion which is surrounding us at present. It is cheap to see. Colours used during the flower power era are returning, so will we be putting a flower in our hair soon?

Christine, you obviously have a mental illness, linking skirts with the “death of masculinity.” First of all, nowhere in deuteronomy does it mention SPECIFICALLY that men shall not wear skirts, and women shall not wear pants! Therefore, men and women wearing each other’s clothes is NOT a sin! Second, religious fanatics like yourself believe that if men wear skirts, it will be the end of the world. What BS!! Society can still survive with the gender of clothing abolished! You want to talk about the end of humanity — look at Iran’s attempt to acquire nuclear weapons and use them on Israel and America!! You are sick and need help!!

You freferred to the Bible. Please ote that the first piece of clothing was a figleave both for Eve and for Adam.
You based your opinion on Deuterimony 22:5 where it is indicated that people will not wear apparel of the other gender. If you whant to apply Deuteromony 22:5 than you should apply also 22:11(no mixed textiles) and 22:21 where a woman shall be stoned if she was not a virgin prior to marriage or when she commits aldultery, she shall be stoned (texts we know more in relation to the Koran).
Thus only referring to those parts which suit you is a no-no.

Furthermore in the time during which the Bible was written, skirts and robes were daily wear for men…

Christine, what is foolish in men’s skirts? Men wore skirted garment through the millenias. In some parts of the world still wear skirts called kilts, sarongs, lava-lavas, dhotis. It have nothing common with being girly. Men in westernized societes were forced to wear only trousers for last 200, 300 years. Do You think it’s long? Meantime skirts became garment for ladies only. Women have stolen our skirts! Look at the historical costumes. Dresses were unisex, skirts only for men until med 19th century. Fact is, trousers aren’t comfortable for men. Also increases risk of testicular and prostate diseases mainly by causing our sexual organs overheat especially in summer, during long-term sitting etc. It’s time to stop the trouser tyranny! And at last, why women are allowed to wear both male and female (in modern terminology) clothes when men can’t wear garment that fits our anatomy much better? Are men the second-class citizens?
