Beyonce Needs Acting Lessons

Hollywood actor Russell Crowe and singer Beyonce Knowles will star in a remake of classic movie A Star Is Born. The “Gladiator” star Crowe is the new favorite to play an aging, alcoholic musician who mentors and falls in love with a younger female star, reported contact music.com.The film was a big screen hit in the 1930s and it has already been reworked twice, with Judy Garland and James Mason in 1957 and Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson in 1976. Nick Cassavettes is on board to direct the film.

Nick Cassavettes, what were you thinking? The last thing the world needs is another Beyonce film. I like Beyonce as a performer. She commands the stage effortlessly and is able to sing live and still sound like the record. A feat that not many artists of today can accomplish without the auto tune effect. She is an excellent singer, dancer and songwriter. But for the love of everything holy please stop giving her lead roles in major films. The girl cannot act. She is not a talented enough actress to hold a lead role down yet. She is not horrible as a supporting role but as a lead, where she has to carry the film, she is painful to watch. Which is why when I heard the news about her starring in the remake of “A Star Is Born” I shivered. Someone please give her acting lessons. Otherwise this will be a “Dream Girls” repeat. Poor Beyonce will attempt to express emotions in scenes that require them but her natural stiffness in acting will prevent her from succeeding. She will try to curse in a scene or show a range of emotions and it will appear forced. Deep down inside she is thinking “I can’t say that. I’m Beyonce. What will that do to my brand?” Or whatever reasoning she has in her mind that prevents her from being free and embracing a role wholeheartedly. Those around her, like Papa Knowles and little sister Solange should grow some balls and stop being afraid to tell her the truth. She cannot act and needs to invest more time into training if she really wants to win an Oscar as she has been claiming as of late. Perhaps she does not have the time to have acting lessons. If that is the case then she should not act until she can make time. This way she will not butcher any more upcoming roles and movies with her stale acting. The only reason why the movies themselves were still successful was because of the other more skilled actors and actresses that were also in the film. They helped to carry her and save the audience from focusing on her lack of skill. I do not understand how such an amazing performer on stage can be so lifeless and boring on the screen? What the hell happens to Sasha Fierce when she is performing?

For instance, her acting in the movie “Obsessed” was dry even though she is in a fight scene. Now that is saying something. Even the fight scene looked as if she was reading from a card. ” You want crazy? (long unsure pause) I will show you crazy.” It is always as if she is holding back in some way. She is afraid to completely open herself up and loose herself in the role. That is what good actors and actresses have to learn to do to bring life into the roles. This fear is what makes her performances less than memorable. Nia Long was on point when she made the claim about her and other singers not being able to act and taking the roles from qualified actors and actresses. I personally would rather not see her butcher another classic movie like she did in “Dream Girls” and have an even wider range of audience members and critics bash her acting. Lets be honest here, “A Star Is Born” is a movie that a more European audience is more familiar with as opposed to “Dream Girls” who targeted the African American audience more. They are going to crucify her. Hollywood also should stop casting her in these big budget roles for the sake of pulling an audience into the theaters based on her name and status. In the end the film’s overall quality suffers from her performance and her credibility as an actress diminishes.

  1. I agree with 100%. Beyonce is a terrible actress! I’m a trained actress (BA in Theater) and I hated her performances. She has no range or depth. I hated Dreamgirls because the best actress in that movie was the Dreamgirl that wasn’t B or J-Hud. She’s taking away roles from much more deserved actresses e.g. Zoe Saldana.

  2. She’s terrible.

  3. ugh, Im tired of this bish thinking that just coz she’s B, evrythng she touches will turn into gold. If she really wants this acting thing to work, girl better get herself into acting class!
