I am happy to report that Fubu will be making a return with a new image and relaunch. I remember when Fubu was the s**t back in the day and if you wearing it then you were “cool”. Times have changed and competition has gotten thicker and now if you are wearing Fubu instead of skinny jeans then people assume that you are clearly not in the know. In fact Fubu generates much of its sales overseas now according to owner Daymond John. (sidenote: I hate the skinny jean trend on men)
FB Legacy launched an advertising campaign featuring Houston rapper Slim Thug, who appears in the company’s Apple-like commercials.
John said that the new brand will feature sportswear that will “compliment any wardrobe.”
“It’s about the power of FUBU and what it means to the fashion world,” said John, who founded Fubu in 1992 with friends Carl Brown, J. Alexander Martin, and Keith Perrin. “We are trying to educate the kids about the history of it,” John continued. “We’re a legendary brand. We were around for a long time.” According to BrandWeek, Fubu’s new target audience is young males, aged 15-25. Fubu Legacy is due in retail stores in July.
Is it too late for Fubu to generate the popularity that had many years ago in the states? Check out the commercial ft SLim Thugga! and leave your thoughts.
