Two people with different levels of education can have a fine relationship, but two people with noticeable differences in actual mental acuity? I don't think I have ever seen that.

But, aren't we really talking more about differences in educational background, here? Intelligence doesn't seem like the right term.

Tiffany hit the nail on the head. It's not intelligence, it's the presumption of being a know it all. While that tends to be a problem for smart men, it's usually stereotyped to apply more to women since they have usually had more challenges growing up and asserting their intelligence.

I think most men that are about something WANT their women to be intelligent, but not condescending.

Quantify smarter, do you mean have more education/degrees? That does not mean smarter, that means you had more money and spare time than most people, it means you can follow instructions well, but does not necessarily make a person smarter. Is it because she makes more money? That does not necessarily mean that she is smarter, she may just work harder.

Smarter is a hard thing to pin down precisely, God has given everyone something they are good at, something they are special at, something they are "SMART" at. It is up to each of us to find out what that is. I do some things well. I expect my partner to do other things well, we should complement each other, bring out the best in each other and support each other.

For what its worth, I can't stand to be around a dumb woman for an extended period of time. As far as a woman smarter than me? I've yet to find one...

i dont see why any man would be intimidated by an educated woman. most of the men i know likes nothing better than to be with someone who seem to be progressive & going somewhere in life. i do understand there is & can be a problem when the woman is the higher earner or the most educated but to just say its because men are intimidated is a bit simplistic. i personally am sacred of a woman when she start calling herself a strong black woman. i usually call any such person "miserable black woman". firstly if you are strong i don't see the need to advertise it. i usually think these are women with a point to prove. whenever i date any such women i find that any disagreement is caused by me not been able to deal with a strong woman or a woman who as an opinion. often times we believe that those who achieve a higher level of education is more intelligent, this can be the case but is not always the case. i've had experience dating a girl who never misses an opertunity to remind me of her two degrees that she has, no matter what the disagreement was abou, it always came down to her two degrees. yes there are some ignorant men but i think most of us would want a partner who is doing well, who we can be proud of but there as to be mutual respect. remember no one knows everything, you may be good in one area & another person good in another area. women & men will always have disagreement, wheather your of the same accademic standard or not, however when the woman has greater qualifications or earns more, every dispute came down to that fact

I can't be with a stupid woman for more than 5 minutes.... Some fake whiteblack women are smart in some areas, But dumb as hell in other areas, Thats where she needs a man to fill in the gaps, (the other gaps too ;o) Where are all the NATURAL black smart woman of color ??? Teach your daughters that smart woman don't have a need to look fake white with wigs and weaves and contacts teach them to be smart and happy in her skin. We men don't want nothing fake smart or not... NO smart intelligent woman can ever intimadate this man CHECK MATE !!!

A woman with higher intelligence then i would never be perceived as a threat. i'm mentally attracted by intelligent women and wouldn't hesitate to date a woman smarter then me.

Yeah I have but I try to do my best not to be little Ms. Know it All. Nobody likes to be corrected, especially when it is over something stupid. The guy I dated thought my brain was sexy and enjoyed watching me be excited about watching Jeopardy. I'll never dumb myself down to get a man but I won't make someone else feel like an idiot either because I am more educated then he is.

I agree, some men are intimidated by a smart woman, which reflects their own insecurities, and I refuse to take ownership of anyone's insecurities, ergo, be made to feel like I must water myself down to make anyone feel comfortable. "Your being small does not serve the world."
