If attitude’s your latitude then your clothing options are the body of your plane. Being one of the first things people notice about you, making that impression is paramount. Your hear people say all the time to “dress up” for interviews or meetings. You see the hype over the skinny jeans craze. Seems like everyone has an opinion on what so and so is wearing; especially the blogs. What you haven’t taken into account is what the clothes themselves say about the man wearing them. I’m no fashion guru but this is the kind of stuff that I’ve learned entering into adulthood. The Good: Classic by design, there’s an air of comfortability that goes along with throwing on your favorite screen printed tee, a pair of broken in jeans and a pair of Dunks. Low maintenance and depending on your eye, continually trendy. This look won’t ever go out of style, people know it and accept it.
The Bad: Wearing the shirt and jeans either too tight or too baggy can make you look like a fashion bandwagon jumper or a layabout posing as a 90s rapper. As much as you may want to, you cannot walk in a power meeting like this; cats will not take you serious at all. Considered the lowest form of dress next to pajamas.
The Fix: Wear in moderation or when the situation (like when you don’t want to get your good clothes dirty like in grammar school) calls for it. Don’t cut off circulation with that round neck. I wasn’t always in love with the V neck but if it works for you, rock it. Leave the skinny jeans for the impressionable youth. Put the 2 sizes too big joints on the rack. Co-ordinate with a clean belt that will accentuate the cut AND keep your pants off the ground. Also, snip the stray fibers on the bottom if they come out; nobody likes a raggedy looking man.
Suits…
