There is a new beef brewing in Hip-Hop. This time it is not between two young hot MC’s. This beef consists of a rapper turned business man and a rapper turned homeless man. Okay, that was mean. The beef is between MC Hammer and Jay-Z. Although maybe I should not refer to it as a beef, since Jay-Z has yet to respond to any of Hammer’s verbal threats.

It all started when Jay Z spit a line about Hammer in Kanye West’s GOOD Fridays single “So Appalled.” It went something like “The Hammer went broke so you know I’m more focused, I lost thirty mil so I spent another 30, ’cause unlike Hammer 30 mil can’t hurt me”. Hammer got wind of the lyrics and became so enraged that he made a video where he is chasing a man dressed as a devil. Further insinuating the rumors that Jay-Z is a devil worshiper.
All bulls**t aside. We all know what this is about. Or at least you should. Hammer is trying to use any opportunity he can to get an inch of relevancy and earn a check or two. Even if it is on the back of an alleged beef over a comment that rings more truth than fabrication. What? Hammer did lose millions of dollars. Granted a big part of that was from him trying to help others, allowing himself to be taken advantage of and mismanaging his money. Still, the lyrics were true. One could argue that Jay-Z did not have to make reference to it in the rhyme. That he could have thought of another angle to note his own business savvy without taking a shot at another rapper. But what fun would that be?
Still, I can’t help but to go back to the idea that Hammer is using this as an opportunity to jump back into the game and hopefully make some change. Sure, he might have been genuinely insulted by Jay using his financial plight as a reference of someone who foiled away millions. However, the Hammer Halloween video which is supposed to be dropping today is a pure gimmick. Everything about it screams gimmick and someone who is desperate for attention. As if Hammer was like “Finally! Somebody mentioned me. Now I have an excuse to come from out of the forces of obscurity.” Hammer doesn’t really want beef with Jay Z or any other rapper. He really wants a check. Check out the trailer for the video below. Whenever it drops, I will update.
As promised. Here is the video:

Didn't he have a reality show for a minute? Some folks just need to learn to let go.
