There are a million and one reasons why the remake of Michael Jackson’s “PYT” was a bad idea. I’m actually a little disappointed in Quincy Jones. It is understandable that he wants to keep up with the times and make music for the generation. But at what expense? Do we have to lose the essence of a song and quality all in one flush in the sake of relevance? With that being said, her are a million and one reasons, well 4 reasons, why this song should never have happened. I triple dog dare you to say that this song is hot.
1. T-Pain
Years later after “Im In Love With A Stripper” and I still do not understand the appeal of T-pain. I literally have only liked one song from him. This would be his club anthem “Buy You A Drank”. Other than that, I do not see the allure. He is not talented vocally, and the auto-tune is like a rain of bullets to my ears. It is clear that he has no talent vocally. Granted his production skills are not the worst. I have to give him credit for being a talented producer. Other than that, I see nothing. Also, PYT was such a classic that T-Pain shitting auto tune all over it is disrespectful. Something about auto tune sounds cheap to me so by including it on a a classic MJ hit, wouldn’t that mean that you are cheapening the quality of the song?
2. Respect
MJ has not been cold in the grave for a good 5 years and people are already on the hunt for his music. Where is the respect? I think it is too soon for anyone, especially someone who must rely on auto tune to make music to remake any of his music. The man is barely cold in the grave and people are already sniffing through his catalogue for what they believe will be a quick and easy come up on a hit. Breathe easy.
3. Po’ Robin Thicke
Robin Thicke, undoubtedly is one of the most talented men of our generation. He is also equally underrated. However when he resorts to such acts as crooning in close proximity over the ear blazing sounds of T-Pain and his auto tune; I have to wonder how desperate is he? He should have been the first one to say no to the idea of auto tune being thrown all over a MJ hit. Where is the respect? For some reason I expect more out of him.
4. Auto Tune Is On Its Death Bed
Every time I think auto tune is dying out, someone, namely T-Pain and a few others try to revive it. Let that s**t go. Please! It was never meant to be a long lasting tool during music making. It is a fad. It also is not necessary for every artists to try to implement it into their music because it does not fit every artist. Often by doing so the artists can ruin the sound that they have created. All, I need now is for somebody like Stevie Wonder to throw some auto-tune on one his tracks and you can watch the tears fall down my eyes.
5. Robin Thicke
If you are going to use him then USE him. Yeah I know I bitched about him being on the song but in actuality he was barely there. I think I only heard his harmonies twice during the song. The rest of the song was slathered with T-Pain and some chick hollering. What was the point of him being invited to the party if he wasn’t going to be able to shine as well?

That was preeeetty bad.
