Admittedly, I am not a big fan of Nicki Minaj. I remember interviewing her for another site years ago before she blew up and she was much more mild. I also felt that she was not comfortable with the sexual nature of her raps which is why it is no surprise to me that she has decided to tone down the sexuality in her music now. However, I did not know anything about her back story and the drama in her family. Which makes me believe her when she says that she does music to help make a better life of course for herself but also for her family.
“A lot of times when you’re from the islands, your parents will leave and then send for you because it’s easier when they have established themselves, when they have a place to stay, when they have a job. I thought it was going to be for a few days, it turned into two years … without my mother,” Minaj remembers.
