Kanye and company have returned with their new single “Monster”. The video has not been released yet but there is an preview. From what I can see, the video appears to be morbid as all hell. I can get with an artist pushing the boundaries with their art in order to keep their fans entertained but should their be limitations? In this video, clearly the theme revolves around death as the bodies of young women lay lifeless. Of course these women are not actually dead but the idea that Hip-Hop is mocking death as a display of their art is disturbing to some. Personally, I have mixed feelings. I like the fact that the artists are pushing boundaries and crossing over into new realms with their creativity. On the other hand, I tend to believe that when you focus on death and sadness in your life too much then that is what attracts to you. Also, this is the s**t that has people so convinced that they are worshiping the devil and in a cult. I am not one of those people but clearly video’s like these motivate the peanut gallery.
Sidenote: Can Nicki ever not show her ass? I mean can we have one video without the camera focusing on her ass? We get it, you are curvy and we love it but DAMN!
Is Hip-Hop’s new morbid direction a wrong turn? Or since it is art, should there be no limitations? What if that is how he feels at this point in his life? Shouldnt he be allowed to express it? Thoughts?
