Kim Kardashian is a bit of an anomaly. She is a White woman that has managed to thrive within the Black community. She only dates male Black celebrities. She hangs out with other female Black celebrities. She is celebrated around the world for her voluptuous frame. She now is even moving into connecting even more with the urban culture by enlisting super star urban producers The Dream and Kanye West to produce her music. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that she has borrowed some tidbits from urban culture and not only made it into her own, but profited from it. It also wouldn’t be wrong to say that she has borrowed much of her persona from Black women as a whole. Kim Kardashian isn’t the problem. Its not her fault that the rules are set up like this. She is just playing the game with an established advantage.
6 Reasons Why Black Women Are Amazing
Personally, it only bothers me when I see her being celebrated for the same things that Black women are sometimes criticized for. For instance, Black women have had round derrières for years. Yet we have never been able to base an entire career from that alone. If you say Beyonce, you are wrong. At least she sings and dances. While Kim Kardashian does…. Well… Nothing. Preliminary explanations aside, this post was inspired from the recent images that were released of her during her video shoot. The images were of Kim with French braids going to the back. Clearly this is a style that was derived from African American women and very rarely do you see White women rocking it. Now, I don’t necessarily have a problem with Kim or any other woman of another culture rocking these braids. I suppose my issue is…Sigh. Can we have anything? Must everything that is urban be mocked by outsiders at first glance to only later be capitalized off in some form or fashion by those same people? Is anything sacred? Where the hell is the cutoff point? Can a sista profit from any damn thing from the point of its release? Why should it have to receive the White stamp of approval to be considered “hot” when they know damn well they thought it was hot the moment they saw it. However, instead of expressing that initially society and the media’s first reaction is to talk s*t to our face, while taking notes behind our back. What kind of f**kery is this?
Blame Yourself For Montana Fishbourne’s Dreams Of Whore Fame
It wouldn’t sting so much to see images of White women in particular borrowing from Black women, if Black women were not previously judged harshly and ridiculed for the same images. As if once a White woman embraces something that is culturally predominately Black, it is acceptable. Instead of her being labeled fat or out of shape she is viewed with more affirming language like voluptuous, curvaceous, buxom, and sensuous. Instead of a White woman being called nappy headed for rocking French braids or deemed too afro centric for the mainstream, she is called beautiful, unique, trendsetting, creative and any other term that emphasizes the positive.
Black Women Are The Most Ignored Race Of Women On Dating Sites
Again, I could honestly care less about people of different races and cultures borrowing from African American or urban culture. What gets me is the idea that when they do it, it is not only deemed acceptable but it is praised and exalted. It suddenly is popularized because those same features are now on the body of someone with porcelain skin. They should not be giving all of the praise and glory for something that they did not discover. Did someone say identity theft?
This is not so much about White and Black but more so about giving credit when credit is due. You see, I read the blogs, watch the gossip programs from time to time and I have seen the shift over the years. Sure there still are women who think that being a size 0 should be the standard for all women. Black female celebrities sometimes get celebrated for their curves but are also equally chastised. Trust me they are not getting their own reality show for having a fat ass alone. Only when White women embrace these same characteristics does it not only gain in social acceptance, it PROPELS.
According to the media, Black women should thank Kim Kardashian for making being curvy the “in” thing. For her being this “anomaly”. Being curvy was never out. If anything Black women made Kim hot.

@Johntheskywalker Your ideas seem to aim at the right concern, of having no racism towards those that are 'going with the flow'. However; both internalized racism, and color-blind racism have a horrible history of doing just the same. There is a danger in doing nothing about this Kim K. absurdity. And you proved a valuable point with your comments about what you believed to be accurate origins of now acclimated African regimes. For instance; Hip-Hop. You stated that it did not have African-American origins. You are correct, but only partially. Hip-hop did not begin with the Puerto-Ricans in NYC, but in African cultures and then later w/African American spoken word & poetry. Also; the shocking comment that you made that Africans were taught Christianity during slavery. This true genius; as a matter of control. They often could not read, and the Patriarchy has long since been used as a way to garner influence. And the association with Afro-centric religious beginnings is correct in many cases, but the original form of those religions has since dissipated; allowing for mis-information about their origins. Thus your misunderstanding that we are egotistical. We are not. We are simply unwilling to be exploited for yet another generation of ignorance. So..again, you proved MY point; instead of yours. Many are lacking in the necessary educational elements, that are needed to prevent future forms of discrimination against the African American culture. Educate yourself. Think about it.
