Since the incident between Chris Brown and Rihanna, I have been trying to support both of their success. I hoped that they both would learn from the incident that forever changed both of their lives and grow from it. Rihanna has since went on to be extremely successful and hopefully has gained some highly useful relationship lessons. While Chris, well, has been falling into an abyss of darkness ever since. For a while, it seemed as if his career was moving back on the path of success but as of the recent Good Morning America incident, he now has me wondering is he troubled? By troubled I mean crazy, off, mentally stressed, loony, nutty, nutso, a loose cannon, etc.. Is it more than a simple case of immaturity?
In his own defense Chris mentioned via Twitter that he is chastised and vilified for his actions while actor Charlie Sheen is celebrated for his idiotic, violent, crackish behavior. He questioned this double standard. Well, the answer to that is simple and he in fact answered his own question. There is a double standard at play. One that he should be aware of by now. A part of it has to do with race and color. Charlie Sheen is a White man and in this society the White man always has advantages that people of color do not share. Both of these men could engage in the exact same behavior and chances are Brown would be punished more severely and much of it would be because he is a Black man and is already seen as prone to violence.
The bigger reason why Sheen can behave foolishly and it be accepted easier is because of the color green. Sheen brings in bucks. Big Bucks. Not those Disney dollars baby. So much so that CBS recently hired him back on to the show Two And A Half Men because they know they need him in order to ensure the shows success. Forget that the man cannot show up to set on time, or is high when he does come. The fact is that he is a central character on the show. A show that makes millions of dollars and brings in millions of viewers for CBS. Even more will tune in now to see the lunacy that is Sheen.
Brown is not a lucrative star like Sheen. Sure he can croon the ladies heart out and pop lock his way to your daughters panties but that alone is no longer bringing in the big dough. At one point Brown was on the path of being the next generations Usher and on the road to millions and perhaps a legacy of his own. That fatal night with Rihanna was the beginning of the end of that. Followed by his cocky, temperamental, and childish behavior which also added to the media circus that surrounded him.
Where are his people? Where is his publicist and or manager who should be there to guide him and reel him in from his own foolishness? Where is his Momma! Daddy? Uncle? Cousins? Somebody who loves him? My God! For the rest of his career, someone will want to mention that night with Rihanna. It is an unavoidable circumstance now. There will always be some prick interviewing him and wanting to spark controversey for their interview with “So yeah about you whooping Rihanna’s a** 10 years ago?” . Similar to how Michael Jackson never lived down the child molestation charges. The man is dead and people still mention that. However, you never saw him throwing chairs at windows when he was harassed by an interviewer about his past indiscretions. Skeletons never go away. He will forever be asked questions about this incident, especially if he puts on a show like he did at the GMA show. Some will provoke him just for the pleasure o seeing his reaction. If he still wants a career in entertainment then he needs to find a way to deal with the possibility that this incident may come up again and again. Even if he at first approved the Rihanna questions to only later retract them, he still cannot react in that way. The media will always make him out to be that bad guy whenever he gives them ammo. Basically, he has to get over it.
Someone needs to step up and get this boy counseling and PR training. I feel his self destructive behavior could be the end of him. The media knows how to provoke him and he is so easily triggered as we have seen over and over. It is the perfect storm for the end of his career.
