I have a goodie that I wanted to share with you guys. You Tube video blogger Nineteeen Percent recently gave her opinion on Beyonce’s single “Run The World”. Now you guys should all know that I think the song sucks. The video is entertaining but overall, the song itself is comparable to a pile of puppy poo from a lyrical standpoint. Well, Nineteen Percent took a different stance on it. She wants to know why Beyonce is perpetuating the idea that women run the world, and that the fight for equality between men and women is over, when it clearly is not. Women are the primary victims of various forms of abuse, rape, we make a disproportionate amount of money in comparison to men for completing the same tasks, we are constantly dehumanized and treated as less than by society, and so on. Clearly, we don’t run a damn thing. Some will think that this video was unnecessary as this was just a song and not meant to be taken seriously. However, from a more analytical view, I can understand why a video like this was necessary. Sure it is fun to say that women run the world and are powerful, but it is much more difficult to actually put those words into action in our society without some type of combative responses from the powers that be.
On the other hand, don’t we need these type of messages for young women? With some much of music being based on misogynistic lyrics, isn’t it enlightening to have some that offer a sense of empowerment to young women? Lyrics that send the message that they can do anything if they try hard enough? Even if that means they will actually come against opposition? I don’t know, I am caught between the two on this.
Check out the video and tell me what your thoughts are. I think that her commentary makes sense once you take away the veil of entertainment that covers the single. Are we sending the wrong message to young girls and women who may go out into the world expecting to “run it” and then have their hopes sadly come tumbling down once they realize that they have a vagina? Or is it all fun in music? What I do know is that, if women ever want to run the world, we have to do a hell of a lot more than sing and dance about it.

I agree with the author of this post. Beyonce "girls rule the world"? Isn't she married now, is she ruling JayZ; I doubt it. What is the message she wants to send, women have already made strong progress and look at the price ladies. How many men for available single women? Ladies you don't need rule the world, you just need to think and act like a woman, girl etc... I don't know any MEN who wants a woman to rule him.
