So, I recently watched the new video from self proclaimed diva Beyonce entitled “The Best Thing I Never Had”. I immediately noticed how fresh faced Beyonce was and decided that I liked this look on her more than the dramatic drag queened out make-up style she sometimes has in her videos. As I continued viewing the video, I also noticed something else. She was damn near naked throughout majority of the video. This became so distracting to me that I started pondering the reasons why she was bouncing around in lingerie for a video that is supposed to be about a wedding. Ehh? There was no point to the gratuitous lingerie scenes.

I failed to see the connection to the two. Shouldn’t the video have focused more so on her new found love and the wedding day as opposed to us peering into her dressing room before the wedding?

After much contemplation I have come to a conclusion. This chick will FIND any excuse to get naked during her video. She has to. It seems like as of late, Beyonce has been going out of her way to make sure that she shows us skin. As if, if she thinks her performance and talent alone will no longer keep our attention. I have stated this before and I will say it again, Beyonce has been a star for years and years. She has managed to maintain a top spot throughout her career. However, the chick is getting old. Not old in the sense of her age but old in the sense of how she appears in the public eye. What do most starlets do when they want to maintain public interest? Take their clothes off. I’m not saying the public is bored with her yet. However there is competition brewing among the young, female pop stars. They all are willing to get naked for the spotlight. They constantly have to one up one another in order to stay on top. I think she lets the fear of being “forgotten” lead her sometimes in some of her decision making. This video is an example of that.

As I watched her run around in lingerie, contouring her body in order to emphasize on her assets I couldn’t help but think how stupid she looked. Beautiful but stupid. What the hell did all of the lingerie scenes have to do with the premise for the video? Not a damn thing. They did not even have to be included. I found myself more interested in the throwback scenes of her at a school dance with her ex-guy and watching their interaction. These scenes played more into the storyline of the video.

Now I expected her to show some skin during the “Who Run The World” video because it had a Xena- Warrior Princess theme. Hell even She’Ra ran around with a body suit on under her armor. It is hard to kick ass in skinny jeans and heels. However, I am lost on why we needed to see shots of Beyonce’s boobs and butt during a video where the storyline centers on her wedding day.

I will say that I think her acting was better in this video than the others. Gold star for her on that one. This woman has solidified her place in history. She is considered an icon by the public. Does she still really need to lower herself to these standards to maintain that status? I say no but perhaps the media and the fans disagree. What do you think?
