Blacks are pissed over the Piers Morgan interview with Beyonce. Although there have been no complaints from Beyonce’s camp thus far. Apparently, many were insulted by him questioning her over her ass-etts and wanting her to compare her derriere to that of Jennifer Lopez’. If you missed the actual video, take a look at the description of the scene below.
For instance he even goaded her into saying that one of the best moments of her life was happening at that moment, as she was being interviewed by him. Huh!? Then he decided to see just how low he could go as they took a special ride in a limo, on their way to a store in London, to buy her latest CD.
“Tell me Beyoncé, how would you compare your “booty” to J-Lo’s (Jennifer Lopez).”
To Beyonce’s credit she was classy as she artfully dodged the question.
“You’re so crazy”, she said with a smile. “I love J-Lo and I’m not going to compare myself to her. She’s great”!
“But who’s got the best “booty”? He pressed again, while his crew showed a picture of Jennifer Lopez, focusing on her derriere.
“I’m not doing that, I don’t know… okay she does”, said Beyoncé as she laughed and looked out the window.
I am the first to defend a sista and to call out obvious racism or classism but in this particular situation, I am not so sure if it is worth a battle cry or even an apology. For one, Beyonce is known for shaking her rear end. A large part of her act is focused on her dancing sexually, and she even penned a song about her body being “bootylicious”; coining the phrase. Her booty is a part of her brand. It always will be a part of what she is known for as an entertainer. Secondly, this was by her choice. You can’t on one end capitalize off of something and then become insulted when you are questioned, no matter how smug the interviewer is, about that same thing. One could argue that the media would have focused on her butt regardless of whether she flaunted it or not. That could be true. But her glamorizing it, and making it synonymous with her brand gave the media and everyone else the “okay” to associate her booty with her star. The same applies to Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj.
If Beyonce was a performer who did not focus on her body and use her sexiness as one of the ways to lure fans in and to brand herself then I would be ready for a protest and would be willing to cry racism. For instance, if he tried to pull that same booty-talk on someone like Jennifer Hudson or even India Arie, then it would be obvious that he was being a racist, condescending a**. Neither Jennifer or India Arie’ brand include how much their behind protrudes. This was their choice. So, that line of questioning towards them would be considered racist because they are Black women and that would be the only reason why he would be asking either of them that. However in the case of booty shaking Beyonce, I have to give this interviewer a pass. That is not to say that I think the question wasn’t improper. It was. But not because Beyonce is a Black woman, because it is rude for any man to speak to a woman who he does not know intimately in that way. But it is definitely not worth an apology. Calm down people.
Do you think he should apologize to Beyonce?

You know I got offended for 2 reasons: 1) Come on now Beyonce has created a brand around her image and name and you are going to shrink it down to who has a better booty? That is minimizing, to me, all of the hard work that she did and 2) I know it's 2011 but I still feel that white men (not all) view black women as seductresses, freaky, only good for sexual purposes, etc. so that is what I thought of when he asked that question. He is such an ass anyway; even Sharon his co-star said that he is always about himself. I'm trying to figure out for what because I have never heard of the man personally. How can he be on America's Got Talent if he's not american anyway? I kid, I kid.
