I’m proud to be a Black woman. In fact, despite the way society and the media portrays us, I would not want to be any other race of woman but Black. Which is why when I saw the clip for Mario Lopez’s staged show called “H8ter”, I became disgruntled as hell. In this particular episode a Black woman (more like an actress) confronts Kim Kardashian and attacks her for having such a big booty and capitalizing from it. She then goes on to complain that somehow Kim is taking the attention away from Black women with something they originated. “Nice to meet you Ms. Black Woman Stereotype”. Yeah, it is as weak as it sounds.
Where do they find these people? There are so many things wrong with this scenario that I could vomit. Besides the obvious staged scene, contrary to what society and the media might have you to believe, Black women are not checking for the Kardashians. We are in no way threatened by them or concerned that somehow they will capture and imprison all of the eligible Black men, wait, let me rephrase that, successful eligible Black men. Honestly, we don’t really care what these women do. Their love lives do not impact every Black woman in America and nor do their backsides.
I am disgusted with the media and society’s attempts at painting Black women as weak minded, petty, desperate, catty, envious, lonely creatures. We are so much more than that. In fact, the only possible issue I have with the fact that Kim gets so much attention for her assets is not directed at her specifically. She cannot control her body size. What the real issue is that Black women have had the same body types and for years and years and we were mocked over it. We were told that it was unattractive and that we somehow did not fit society’s standards of beauty. We didn’t fit the mold or make the cut for beauty in society. Yet, when the “other” and by other I mean another woman of any other race aside from Black or Latin descent, has the same features, on them it is considered exotic and beautiful and extraordinary. It somehow becomes a novelty when they possess the features. It’s not. Black and Latino women have had big assess, wide hips and full lips for years. This is nothing new. It is only insulting that when on a Black women these same features are repulsive but when the same features are on a woman outside of that race then said woman is enchanting and seductive. She is to be praised. So, this brings me to the conclusion that you actually don’t have an issue with the features, you just dislike Black women. I get it! Now it all makes sense.
It is not that Black women are hating on Kim. She is not the problem. It is deeper than her and her body or the advantages she has from it. We know when we are being mistreated. When we are not playing on an equal playing field. There is a much different set of rules in place for us versus them. But by implying that we are somehow envious of her, it deduces the REAL issue.
The real issue does not lie with Kim Kardashian personally or any other woman who is not Black or Latin and happens to have these features. The problem lies with how society adores and places them on a pedestal of exotic beauty for the same features that Black women have had AND been mocked over since the beginning of time. If you don’t believe me then look up Sara Baartman and get back with me.
