It is finally settling in. I did not understand it before but now it has become crystal clear to me. White politicians are obsessed with Michelle Obama. They are not just obsessed with her as a person, they are obsessed with objectifying her. They are obsessed with pinpointing her flaws and finding new creative ways to attempt to break her spirit and deteriorate her as a person.
You might ask why these politicians have decided to set their attentions on Mrs. Obama. After all, there are plenty of other topics closely related to I don’t know… politics that they could be discussing but instead, they chose to narrow their attentions in on the President’s wife. The reason may not be as obvious to you as it is to me. Mrs. Obama is a Black woman and mainstream media are infatuated with decoding the Black woman at all costs. Even if it means demeaning her every step of the way.
Now Michelle has been judged by quite a few opinionated White men with a platform to express his judgements. Rush Limbaugh is infamous for this. The latest to step up to the plate is Republican lawmaker Jim Sensenbrenner. He recently made the comment, and I am paraphrasing here, that she had a large posterior and that she has no room to instruct kids to eat healthy when she clearly does not practice what she preaches.
He has a right to feel whatever way he liked towards Mrs. Obama. I know this. It just is unnerving to see yet another White man belittling a sister. Basing his opinions on her by what mainstream, White media says is beauty. So, I guess because she is not 5’8 and 110 pounds, she is unhealthy and another fat Black woman in the eyes of Sensenbrenner.
This is exactly how mainstream media has trained society to think. Any woman that has curves, no matter how fit she may be, is fat and perhaps even unhealthy. It does not matter that you can be a stick figure and still be an unhealthy person and have an unhealthy diet. No, they base their criticism on their own standards of beauty to which everyone is supposed to adhere to or face to harsh reality of being called a “fatty” by someone White.
You know what I say to this practice? Bite me. It is the most appropriately childish response for such childishly, narrow minded, insulting behavior. The you don’t look like us so we don’t like you creed got played out in the 7th grade.
Now let me start off by saying that I will be the first to admit when a woman of any color has passed the range of being curvy and is tip toeing into the realm of being overweight and unhealthy. I am a firm believer in the fact that there is a defined difference between being “thick” and being “fat” and that these two are often misconstrued and misused in the African American community. I am fully aware that there are overweight Black women. There are over weight women of every race. This however, is not about some fat Black woman. It is much bigger and more malicious than that.
You see, Mrs. Obama is not fat. She is clearly not overweight or has ever presented herself to appear unhealthy in her lifestyle. Which brings me back, yet again to the real issue at hand. The one that some more conservative individuals might want to skim over. When will mainstream society, White media more specifically, accept the fact that their standards of beauty are not the end all and be all for every culture? That although Angelina Jolie has a relatively beautiful face and lips, her scaly, mal-nutritioned 12 year-old boy body, by no means is the picture of beauty or health in most parts of the world. That just because you have an occasional burger, it does not mean that you are an unhealthy eater. That the women they consider to be Goddesses are just White women to some people of color and are not someone that we should ALL revel in awe of or scamper to emulate. That other cultures have their own standards of beauty that are equally important if not more due to them usually being a more realistic example of an every day woman. That Thelma from Good Times in her prime will always be way hotter in comparison to Jennifer Anniston on her best day. Word. When will they accept that they don’t get to decide when a woman’s curves is acceptable and to which woman it is acceptable on? When will they understand that Kim Kardashian did not invent the big booty?
You see, I can accept a person having a difference in opinion on what they consider to be beautiful. What I cannot and will not encourage is for everyone to adhere to the exact same standards of what is beautiful. Especially when those standards are skewed with things like racism, sexism, misunderstanding of cultural differences, unwllingness to accept that not everyone is cloned from a cookie cutter form. That is when it becomes problematic for me and I have to by my God given common sensed nature, dismiss the shit out of what you are saying as pure gibberish. Much like the white liquid that comes from a pigeon’s backside.

LJ, you should see the guy who made the statement, Michelle Obama is in much better shape than he is. His shape is definetly round. I remember in the beginning when FLOTUS posed in a photo with her bear arms. Can this fat ass senator do that without making people vomit? Fat senators need to stop calling other people fat and start exercising for themselves. Michelle is fine.
