When I was in my early 20′s I was engaged. The relationship had its fair share of tumultuous times and needless to say, neither of us were ready for marriage. Despite that, we proceeded with the engagement and my then fiance even discussed getting a tattoo of my name on his arm. I rejected the idea. What if we didn’t make it? We weren’t even married yet. Needless to say, the relationship ended and luckily, neither one of us were foolish enough to brand our undying dying love on our bodies. Thank GAWD!
Tattooing in the name of love is some unnerving ish to me. Every time I see people do it, I want to ask them “Are you really that discombobulated mentally? “. Yeah, I’m calling you discombobulated and you deserve it. The thing that irks me is the fact that relationships are not taken seriously by our society. People marry after knowing one another a few days and divorce over the slightest rough patch. Society does not value marriage and probably never will again. The moment people started competing on reality shows for husbands and wives, the sanctity of marriage was flushed down the proverbial toilet.
It irks me even more when celebrities get tattoos of another celebrity they may happen to be dating or married to. Why? Their marriages and relationships are usually even shorter than the average person’s. In most scenarios it is filled with so much superficial hog wash that the chance of their being any strain of authentic love between the two is virtually unseen. Am I being judgmental? Maybe, but you know I’m right. So who cares.
But what about when a celebrity tattoos another celebrities likeness on their body? Weird but not too weird. What if they have never met this celebrity? As homage right? Weird but kind of plausible. What if the celebrity that they tattoo is also deceased? Okay, now ish just got creepy right? Well, that is how I feel towards Rapper/Actor Drake, who recently revealed his tattoo of the late R and B singer Aaliyah. What makes the tattoo even more necrofillia -( for those who don’t know, these people have sex with dead people) like is the fact that Drake has never dated, met, loved, or even known Aaliyah. From my understanding he has had as much contact with her as the average fan/stalker/pursuant/ has. So why the tattoo?
Well, defenders of Drake who think that obsession is “cute” or “sweet” say that Drake has always had a soft spot for Aaliyah and this is his way of paying tribute to her. Right. People, you pay tribute to a person, with whom you admire but have never met by maybe writing a poem about them, by writing a song about them, by writing a book about their life. Not by tattooing a gigantic ass picture of their face on your back. I don’t want to hear an crap about him being a sensitive man. This is not sensitivity. This is scary. This is why so many ladies are in trouble now. You can’t discern when a man is sincerely into you and when he is on some perverted, obsessive type ish with you. This ain’t cute space cadets.
This ish right here is not sweet. It is frightening. It brings me to consider if Drake needs counseling of some kind. Who the hell in their rationale mind, does THIS? People just don’t tattoo full facials of dead people, whom they have never met on their bodies. Any one who does clearly needs help. Hell even super producer Timbaland admitted to being in love with Aaliyah for years and he KNEW her. Even he did not go out and get a tattoo of her face on his body after she passed. He would have at least got a semi-pass on that one.
I guess I should not be too surprised. Months ago, Drake wrote a poem to Aaliyah and he talked to her as if her knew her. He even referenced her by her middle name Dana. As if they were long time homies and he just had it like that. Although that was low on the creepy scale, it was much more acceptable than this act of… “devotion”.
The hypocritical part to this story is that months ago a super fan of Drake’s tattooed his name on her forehead. His name on her forehead ya’ll! When Drake heard of this he was pissed. Not at the fan so much but at the tattoo artist for doing something so asinine to the fan. He even has since made threats of violence towards the artist (will believe that when I see it Drake). So, why only months later, would he turn around and commit the same idiotic act of “devotion”? It is the same story. The fan does not know Drake. Drake does not love or care for the fan as an individual. He has never had a relationship with her or probably even acknowledged her personally. Sounds familiar? If it doesn’t then let me break it down for you. He is behaving the same way as the fan but only towards a dead celebrity. The only question to be asked now is who is creepier? Drake or the super fan?
I can only hope that this tattoo is fake. But deep down, in the most integral annoyances of my mind, I know its not. What do you think?

Idk- I think most stars are kinda "off" so their acts of creepiness and/or obsessions no matter how morbid is pretty standard too me.
